Two Ranch Red
Vineyards: Our Two Ranch Red is one hundred percent Sonoma County. Fifty-nine percent of the grapes in this bottling of Hanna Two Ranch Red are from our Bismark Mountain Vineyard above Sonoma Valley in the Moon Mountain District, forty percent are from Alexander Valley, and the remaining one percent are from our new Dry Creek Mountain property.
Winemaking: Our Two Ranch epitomizes the gestalt of blending. This bottling is composed of a cofermented Bismark lot (Malbec, Cab Franc and Merlot were fermented together) blended with single cultivar lots from both Alexander Valley and Bismark. All the wines were pressed to taste and barrel aged on lees. Depending upon vintage, the lots were barrel aged for 12 to 36 months. Oak selection across the blend was 46% new European Oak coopered by Colbert, Remond and Trust, and 54% one- to four-year-old barrels coopered by Remond, Trust, Ô, Boutes, Fouailly and Nadalie.
Our Two Ranch Red is blended cross-vintage and with multiple varieties to maximize spice, fruit flavors and suppleness. Except for two percent Petite Sirah, this bottling is a blend of Bordeaux cultivars: Cabernet Sauvignon from all three ranches, Malbec from AV & Bismark, and Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Petit Verdot from Bismark. The blend was assembled and bottled in June 2023.
Tasting Notes: In the glass our Two Ranch is deep plum. Buoying aromas of anise, baked oatmeal, currant, Regal Crown sour cherry, and oolong tea waft dreamily. By mouth the notes of black licorice, dried plum and back olive are supported by a luxurious, velvety overstuffed divan. (Tasted 1-23-23)
