2020 Hanna Rosé 750ML
Vineyards: Our Sonoma Rosé is crisp and lively and captures the exuberance that fills harvest’s early days. The 2020 is a blend of 40% Zinfandel from our Bismark Mountain Ranch, 38% Malbec from our Alexander Valley Ranch and 22% Pinot Noir from our Home Ranch in Russian River Valley.
Rose Vintage 2020: In Contrast with 2019, winter was mild and dry with a warm very warm February and early bud break. A near frost free spring and hot temps in May followed by a mid-month rain reduced fruit set. Summer was mild until two hot windy days in mid-August accelerated the lightning caused Walbridge fire northwest of our vineyards. Fruit for this Rose was picked on August 19 & 20, 2020, before smoke infiltrated the vineyards, at an average 20.4 o Brix, 0.98 TA and 3.20 pH.
Winemaking: The Zinfandel, Malbec and Pinot Noir grapes for our Rosé were whole cluster pressed to minimize color extraction and fermented cool to retain the vibrancy and freshness of the fruit. Bottled in its youth with minimal handling, this dry Rosé has a vibrant natural acidity and low alcohol, bottled at 11.5% Alc, TA 0.73 mg/L and pH 3.24.
Tasting Notes: Sakura pink in the glass, our 2020 Rosé oozes a panoply of vernal and summer delights: strawberry, nectarine and watermelon are in the fore followed by tea rose and crushed pomegranate. By mouth Bing cherry, blood orange and alpine strawberry flood the palate and the gossamer texture is complemented by a jicama like crispness (Tasted 11-4-21)
We grow and vinify our Rosé to be fresh, vibrant, and evocative of the grapes themselves. We have chosen a screwcap closure— unsurpassed in its ability to retain our wines exuberance. Our Rosé is bottled with minimal handling shortly after fermentation; therefore, it retains some naturally-produced carbon dioxide which is responsible for the slight effervescence. Please note that proper conservation requires cool, even temperatures and the absence of light.
