2004 Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
90pts ~ Wine Enthusiast,

"...Balance and complexity are the hallmarks of this Cab from veteran producer Hanna. It's deep and long in spicy, oaky blackberry and cherry fruit..."

Hanna’s 2004 Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon was sourced from our Red Ranch in Alexander Valley. Beginning in 2000 we began replanting 10 of our 17 Cabernet blocks. In 2004 enough of these blocks had reentered production to enable us to resume production of our Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. Represented in those new blocks are two new selections—clones 6 and 2. All our new plantings are cane pruned, and while harvested by hand, are potentially machine harvestable.

2004 was an early, warm year that produced a tiny crop. Cabernet yields were just under two tons per acre, while the Merlot was slightly over two tons per acre. Soaring sugars sent us into a picking frenzy in block 4 on September 6th, which was soon tempered by a cool spell and slower ripening. Our Alexander Valley Cabernet harvest culminated on October 13th, with four-and-a-half tons from our terraced block 25. We harvested the Cab at an average Brix of 26.4o and the Merlot averaged 25.0o Brix.

With flavors of cherries and spice, it has a polished mouthfeel with fine tannins and perfect acidity.
